Saying hello to YouTube, and goodbye to my little friend: my right nut. Shot the day before I had surgery, this video was a sort of impromptu diary entry, and provided a much needed distraction from my worried state. These video diaries will likely have all sorts of things done to the visuals. Mostly just for the sake of artistic experimentation. But looking a bit further in, part of me wonders if this could be a purposeful technique for shaking up the viewer's expectations for such "social media" content.
The first thing I'm noticing as I commit to that almighty UPLOAD feature on YouTube, is that I have no idea where the boundary lies between narcissism and genuine, good-intentioned community outreach. I want to be fully transparent and vulnerable in these blogs, and my gut tells me that the less I crawl into my own head the better. So I'll just start recording raw ideas on random topics, and I'll upload the results without much editing. Down the road, that'll be the time for me to look back at all this and see what it grew into. But trying to anticipate the point of this experiment ahead of time would kill all the allure and inspiration I feel drawing me into this type of sharing.
For all of those who've stopped by to participate in my overshare experiment, I sincerely thank you. If you enjoyed yourself and found something worthwhile here, than you are the anonymous friends I've looking for. Feel free to reach out everyone; the comments section is an integral part of this experiment, if not THE most important element.
More videos on the way soon...
